Segment age penalties

The idea would be to allow a penalty to be applied for segments that have not been used for a long time, based on segment age as terminology might have changed or a translator might have improved in terms of becoming more succinct, or initial translation quality might have subsequently proven to be suboptimal, or a segment may have a better translation contextually.

Currently to achieve this you would have to filter and export TMs by segment age and then apply penalties to the new TMs as a workaround.

  • I endorse Michael Baily's very thorough definition of the segment ageing required, and the instances he cites exhaustively, which mirror my frequent user experience. I feel that segment ageing should be applied either individually or as a batch process, with application of a complex filter, to include segment age, client, domain (specialist field). I hope this helps.

  • Client or other filter-based penalties are another interesting potential use case, and could also be used to penalise different product lines of a same client (say you work for a conglomerate).
