Quick access to Item's TCM ID and WebDAV URL

There are a number of use cases when the user may want to note down TCM ID and/or WebDAV URL of an item. The Content Manager shows an item's ID in the tooltip when hovering over the item, but there is no easy way to copy it to clipboard.

Provide options in the context menu of an item to Copy ID/WebDAV to clipboard. Alternatively, provide buttons for this in the ribbon toolbar.

Note, there is already a plugin that does something similar: http://alchemywebstore.com/plugins/555e2ed73913f516a090e5ca

  • Interesting, . I've assumed any visible or "knowable" text in the UI should offer the ability to copy and paste from IDs to UI labels and error messages. Though IDs and such details aren't always useful to perhaps basic content entry, editors often need to get information to other users, IT, Support, etc. I'm not in favor of any particular place, though (maybe it's a custom tooltip, command, shortcut, etc.).

To continue the thinking and discussion, the search box allows users the ability to enter a TCM-URI directly into the UI (hidden, but definitely there for those that know about it). Would it make sense to drop this feature? Or perhaps typing a TCM-URI in the main list view search box could instead filter or search for a matching item?

Also, some of the information in the views seem unnecessary (Publication Key in the BluePrint viewer). Should/could we remove identifiers like TCM URI or WebDAV path from wherever they already appear in the UI? I'm thinking they should remain available (but somehow copyable or otherwise "exportable" if visible).
