Under Community Review

This is definitely an interesting idea. I particularly like the idea of "soft" notifications and nudges.

Though we'll likely focus a bit on the editor's experience for the next development work related to the User Interface, I can see how the idea of "this is similar" might relate to initiatives related to search, automation, or possibly reporting.

We'll leave this open to see how the community feels about it and to refer back to when we look at upcoming work.

"Similar" Schema warning

Display a message when editing a schema to indicate if it is similar to others already created.

This would help prevent excessive schema creation in larger implementations.

I dont think the GUI should prevent or stop you from saving a schema, rather something more like Stack Overflow, checking Xml field names after they're added suggesting that "this schema is similar to ....".

  • Totally agree Alvin - I myself have worked by defining schemas upfront on greenfield projects. But when you get to an existing implementation thats been around a few years, maybe documentation is a little thin I think this kind of thing can be a useful support.

I think its useful anytime - but being in the context of schema field creation seems to be the ideal point to remind a user to consider other similar schemas based on the changes they're making. As I say, nothing too obtrusive or something that prevents you from continuing.
