How does max.page work?

We have a file set to max.page of 12. If it exceeds 12, the folios are 12, 12(1), 12(2), 12(3) instead of 12, 13, 14, 15.
How does this work exactly? Is it already set up within xpp? Is there a macro or other setting I can get to?

Thanks!
-Carol

  • Hi Carol,

Understand that I'm coming at this just from the XPP side of things. I'm not familiar with this tool you show; it's certainly not an XPP-delivered tool. Is this some custom tool?

In any case, if I had to guess it's possible that the entered max.page value gets put into the Max Page Number field in the Loose-leaf section of the Division Ticket (_dt_div.sde) in XPP.

In the XPP documentation, that field is described as: For use with the Automatic Loose-leaf option. Enter the highest whole page number that the division can attain before Loose-leaf inserts appended pages.

Meaning: once the division reaches that maximum page number, auto loose-leaf composition will treat all additional pages as insert pages.

That seems to match up with the page numbering behavior you've described.

I don't think there is any particular macro involved (other than any macros used to output the loose-leaf page numbers in the folio); I think that DT field would be the "setting you could get to" in XPP.

    I hope that helps.

  • Carol,

Jonathan is correct. That is exactly what the system will do when you set the max page value. It will start creating insert pages when that number of pages is reached.
But the important thing is that you have to put the division in looseleaf 'auto' mode otherwise this field will do nothing.
This is done in the division ticket:
