I'm looking for version 5.3.38.0 to install the software on my laptop (i.e. my second computer). The newer 5.3.5.0 won't accept the .bak backup from my main PC. I have the 'Freelance edition', if that means anything. Thank you!

Trados Business Manager (TBM) has reached end of life. Following the discontinuation of TBM sales on 31 October 2023, all maintenance and support services will conclude on 31 October 2024.
What Does This Mean for TBM Users?

Hello again, I just found a working link to 5.3.44.0, and this has accepted the .bak, so the issue is now resolved. Many thanks!
One day I'll move up to the newer version 6, but the 5 version has everything that I need, and 6 seemed very complicated to customise when I looked at it (which was a long time ago, to be fair).

You can even go without installer. Just copy installed app from your PC to another PC. It will work. But in case you need older installer, here are few links:

I am working with Baccs 5.0.4, My database is *.bak
Program does not offer updates or upgrades.
I also just installed 6 Essential and TBM 5.3.5 (demo mode I just see)
These 2 don't let me import *.bak.
What route to follow to TBM 6 Essential (importing Bak data) ? (activated and updated today)
PD: SDL online help, now Rws, is a bit chaotic! After looking for a fix I have a dozen of windows open from different areas of this website. Help... community... wiki... old docs... docs that are for different or unclear versions. Your help is very appreciated as usual!
Edit: surprisingly now export to Json appeared! Don't know if it is due to activating TBM6 or what....!
Edit 2: missing info: what settings are not imported (invoice details, file folders locations) and of course how to make again personal invoices. (I saw that somewhere...)

Yeah, sounds a bit confusing. For TBM, we have only this community, which combines application documentation and forums. No other sources of info (except support contact, of course).
So, if you're on 5.0.4, you have to do the following:
1. Create backup and store it in safe location.
2. Download any of versions in previous post, and install it over your 5.0.4. Hope it will work and upgrade your database to latest version.
3. Export to JSON from the application settings.
4. Import JSON in v6. Overall, upgrade process is described here:https://community.rws.com/product-groups/trados-portfolio/business-manager/w/wiki/5907/upgrading-from-version-5
Hope it all helps at least a little, and you'll be able to move.

Maybe the cause of confussion is that Backup is under Tools (in 5.0.4) and Export to Json under Settings...
