This has been discussed at length in these forums already, but in a nutshell the reason for the change is that the old measure was actually not accurately reflecting "Progress".  Its not a wordcount analysis, it's an indicator of progress through the file and sometimes words alone are not enough.  So it's been changed to be based on segments.
