Cannot start Trados 2017. "Not found" error when searching for a license. Unable to reactivate license.

I have Trados 2017 installed on my desktop and my laptop.  Both run the current version of Windows 10 with the recent update.  I get a "Not found" error when I try to open Trados 2017 from either my start icon on the .exe file.  However, the software works fine on my desktop. That same applies to the legacy versions of Trados 2015 that are left on the computers.

I upgraded from Trados 2015 to 2017 in November 2017.

I deleted Trados Studio 2017 from the Windows Control Panel screen and all the associated directories that Paul listed. (What about the app "SDL Trados 2017 SR1 - Remove suite of products"?  What does that even mean?  Will this remove my MultiTerm as well, which works fine)?

I uninstalled the recent Windows updates (doing a Windows Repair deletes ALL of my applications and takes hours to recover from!).  I reinstalled Trados but now the license is no longer available. Since I could never access Studio to begin with from the laptop, I was never able to deactivate the license before repairing Windows (you should point that out Paul!)

I did a Forced Return to the license for both fulfillments, and the new activation date shows Jan 8, 2018 (today).  However, I still cannot seem to seem to Activate the product. I get a "Activation failed. Activation not allowed as remaining quantity is 0".  When I click "Cancel" from the Activation screen, I can get the "Not found" error screen.

Any help would be most appreciated, since I am travelling and trying to complete a project (hence using my laptop!).

Cheers,

  • Hello

I have just reset your licence. Please try again and see if you are able to activate your licence now?

The problem seems to be that you have activated it too many times without returning it and now the force return will not work for you.  If this happens your best action is to raise a support request.

For licensing or installation issues that prevent you from working we have a route for all customers to get help. This can be achieved really quickly using this link:

    https://gateway.sdl.com/liveagentlicensing

    You have two options:

    1. Submit a case using a webform
    2. Use live chat to get a licence reset

You can use either option depending on the time of day, but make sure that you refer to this thread so the teams can see what you have tried already.

    Regards

    Paul

  • Thanks Paul

In the end, as was originally suggested, I ended up resetting Window 10 entirely. It deleted everything except personal data files. I was able to reinstall Trados 7 and activate it, but the auto update fails on it. Not sure if your help or the Windows reset helped with the license? The “not found” error no longer occurs.

I am currently reinstalling EVERYTHING again including Office, all other programs etc. after the Windows reset. This is obviously not an acceptable solution for a bug with the recent Windows update that only affects Trados (my other CAT tools are fine).

Hoping you get a fix for this soon.
