Sudio installation error: Setup has detected a higher version of this product already installed

Dead SDL,

I uninstalled Studio 2019 and when I try to reinstall I receive the following error message:

Error message during Trados Studio 2019 SR2 installation stating 'Setup did not complete. The error is: Setup has detected a higher version of this product already installed. If you still wish to install this version, you must remove the other version first.' with an OK button.

I tried the solution indicated in the SDL Community, but it doesn't work. How can I solve (short of formatting the HD)?

  • Reformatting the HD sounds a bit drastic.  Can you tell us what you actually tried rather than simply saying you used some solution you saw in the community?

    If you didn't do this please try the solutions in this KB:

    The support team, if we need to get them involved, will do this anyway even if you have tried it yourself.  So it's worth making sure you did attempt this properly first as you'll save yourself some time having to wait until tomorrow at the earliest.

    The solutions at the link you posted are those I already tried. The first one (running the .msi files) didn't bring any results, while the second one (running the latest installer) generated another error message:

    Unfortunately, it seems to be a problem that dates back to Studio 2015 but I couldn't find any other solutions apart from those in the link you mentioned.

    I know that formatting the HD seems a bit drastic, however I learned that sometimes it's the fastest and cleaner solution with this type of problems.
