Unable to translate PPT files in SDL Trados Studio 2021 (16.0.1.2917)

Hello,

I recently installed a trial version of SDL Trados Studio 2021 (16.0.1.2917). I encountered an issue with PPT files. When I import a PPT file (as opposed to PPTX files), it gets added to the project as a reference file, without any error information. If I preview this file from the Project Properties dialogue, I get the following error:

Could not load file or assembly 'Aspose.Slides, Version=20.2.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=716fcc553a201e56' or one of its dependencies. The located assembly's manifest definition does not match the assembly reference. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131040)

If I go to C:\Program Files (x86)\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\Studio16 and right-click Aspose.Slides.dll and check its version, I can see that the version is 20.6.0.0, not 20.2.0.0.

It looks like there is an issue with the installation package (wrong DLL version is packaged with the installation program).

I have attached screenshots.

Is this a known issue or is there something wrong with my installation?

Thanks!

  • I suggest you create a new thread  because this one already has a verified answer on it.

when you do make sure you explain what happens.

  • 1 I explained. No slur please. But thanks for the contribution of my compilation of nonrelevant answers.

    2 Did you read?
My version if way posterior to the one mentioned.
    16.1.6 vs 16.0.1.

NB I eventually used my still operational version of Trados 2019 to be able to deliver.

  • ok... if this is how you would like to proceed.

    You said:

    NOK.

Presumably I'd need a PhD to understand what this meant?

My Trados 2021 v. 16.1.6.4375 does not translate PPTX / does not propose to do it.

    ok.  That's a start.  But...

    • what happens when you try?
    • you said it doesn't translate pptx.  Does this mean the file opens and now you can't translate it?
    • you said it doesn't propose to do it... what on earth does that mean?  Do you expect the application to translate the file for you?

So far all we know is you say you can't handle pptx files for some reason but we have no idea how far you get, if there are any error messages... in fact we have no idea about your problem at all.

    Did you read?
My version if way posterior to the one mentioned.
    16.1.6 vs 16.0.1.

Yes.  Now please explain why you think this is at all relevant other than it's useful for us to know the version of Studio you have.  We don't have any clue why you cannot handle pptx files, and mind reading to determine the cause and then link it to the fact you have a later version is hardly an academic approach.  Notwithstanding that, assuming that just because you have a later version and therefore should not have any problems is a bit of a stretch at best.

But thanks for the contribution of my compilation of nonrelevant answers.

You're welcome.  Although I am disappointed that someone with your credentials was unable to see why it might be helpful for you to simply post into a new thread as I asked:

    1. you could explain properly with more detail what your specific problem was
    2. the post would not get lost since this one already has a verified answer on it and we use the suggested and verified answers to filter for posts that need addressing
    3. if we need to escalate the case to technical support (once you have actually explained what the problem is and engaged with us when we try to help) then we can do this automatically based on the original posters credentials

Instead you decided to waste your time still not telling me anything useful other than pointing out the obvious that you have a more recent version of the software.
