Track changes forces wrong autopropagation

When I work in track changes and confirm one date with ctrl enter (autopropagation enabled), it copies this particular date to all other segments as target. To illustrate:

Segment 1: 01.03.2020

Segment 2: 02.11.2020

Segment 3: 11.08.2020

Now when I use ctrl insert in segment 1 and then press ctrl Enter, all 3 segments become ... 01.03.2020.

So we have

Segment 1: 01.03.2020

Segment 2: 01.03.2020

Segment 3: 01.03.2020

Which is nonsense and which casued me a complaint from a client because I overlooked it.

I had this problem in Trados 2017 and as I see, 3 upgrades later it still exists in 2021.

  • I tested without translating the fie first... just just turned on track changes and AP'd...

Screenshot of Trados Studio showing text segments with track changes turned on, highlighting changes in blue and orange.

That looks fine.  So I translated the segments and then opened for review, again with track changes.

    Before:

Screenshot of Trados Studio with translated text segments and track changes, showing modifications in green and purple.

    After:

Screenshot of Trados Studio displaying text segments with track changes, highlighting a date format issue with a broken blue underline.

So let's think about why this isn't working for you?

    • could be that the date format is not seen as a date so the result is coming based on whatever was in your TM?  Check that the date has a blue underline under the whole date like this:
Close-up screenshot of a date '02.11.2020' in Trados Studio with a continuous blue underline indicating proper date recognition.
If the line is broken Studio may not handle the date as you expect.
    • could be you don't have date recognition turned on and Studio is substituting the token with whatever is already in your TM

Why not see if you can repeat your test using a brand new clean TM?  Also, now you see a few variables in the process perhaps you can explain in detail how you are working so we can reproduce your problem?
