Please try to install Studio 2021 manually following the steps from this article: https://gateway.rws.com/csm?id=kb_article_view&sysparm_article=KB0029227

If it still doesn`t work, download and install Microsoft .NET Framework 4.8 from here and then run the Studio installer again: dotnet.microsoft.com/.../net48

I followed the steps in the article you sent me for installing Studio 2021 manually:

• Prerequisites : ok

• Install the main components of Studio/MultiTerm:

1. Studio 2021 : ok – I can see the icon on my desktop

1. MultiTerm DeskTop 2021 : Folder cannot be found in C:\ProgramData\Package Cache\SDL\SDLMultiTermDesktop2021\modules :

Can you tell me if this is normal? I have the 2019 version of MultiTerm, and I have the prerequisites for both Studio 2021 and MultiTerm 2021.  FYI, “Hidden Items” is checked:

When trying to open SDL Trados Studio 2021, the following message appears:

I clicked on “Yes” and was sent to https://dotnet.microsoft.com/download/dotnet-framework/net48?utm_source=getdotnetframework&utm_medium=referral (the same link as in your message : https://dotnet.microsoft.com/download/dotnet-framework/net48)

I downloaded .NET Framework 4.8 Runtime

I saved and ran the file.

Download progress: ok (all files successfully downloaded)

Installation progress : stops halfway, error message :

There are several errors in the log file :

• SetupResources.dll missing from 2057 directory
• PerformOperation on exe returned exit code 2 (translates to HRESULT = 0x2)
• PerformOperation on exe returned exit code 2 (translates to HRESULT = 0x2)
• PerformOperation on exe returned exit code 2 (translates to HRESULT = 0x2)
• PerformOperation on exe returned exit code 2 (translates to HRESULT = 0x2)
• OnFailureBehavior for this item is to Rollback.
• Final Result: Installation failed with error code: (0x00000002), "The system cannot find the file specified. "

Can you please advise on next steps?

Can you please check your Windows updates status and make sure the latest updates are installed?

This seems to be an issue with the operating system as the .NET Framework 4.8 Runtime is a Windows component and should be installed if everything is ok. 

You can try to scan the system for errors by running the sfc /scannow command in Command prompt: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/using-system-file-checker-in-windows-10-365e0031-36b1-6031-f804-8fd86e0ef4ca

Thank you for your suggestions and my apologies for my late reply, I tried to solve the issue myself and was hoping I could post the Answer to this question.

I followed your instructions and there is indeed a problem with the Windows Updates. I was convinced my computer checked automatically for Windows Updates, but this is the message I get:

Very odd indeed, as I’m quite sure I’ve updated my computer since Feb 2019!

So I’m now on Method 2 and I’ve asked for help in the Microsoft Community, because I need to manually back up and restore the registry in Windows before trying Method 2 and I’m afraid I might do something wrong:

to back up and restore the registry in Windows, and I see this:

I am not sure if I need to follow all of the instructions in the order as shown before reseting the Windows Update components or if I do one part first and the next after the reset?

Also, I don't know which registry key or subkey I want to/need to back up... (in Step 1, Back up the registry manually):

We don't indeed provide support for the operating system issue.

Before contacting Microsoft Support I do however recommend running that sfc/ scannow in the the Command Prompt.

This does have the potential to resolve a lot of operating system issues and it can't do any harm on your system.

If this however doesn't work you would need to contact Microsoft Support for the issue.
