Error message - Can't launch Trados

Hi everyone,

I tried opening Trados but it just won't launch and I keep getting this error message:

Service 'Sdl.Desktop.Telemetry.Interfaces.ITelemetryService' could not be started

I have no idea what that means. Here's what I tried so far:

- Run a repair installation (as suggested here)

- Re-download Trados

- Reboot the computer

- Make sure computer software is up to date

None of this worked. I also wanted to try this article's 2nd workaround, but can't seem to find the folder anywhere on my computer. I have checked the hidden files. I found this article also, but I can't try it since I can't open Trados.

I just don't know what to try anymore. I have a project to deliver this week and I absolutely need Trados and my existing term base to be able to finish it. Is there any tech that could take a look into my issue?

For information, I run Windows (not sure which version, maybe 10) on Bootcamp on my MacBook Air. I'm not super familiar with Windows computers so maybe I'm just missing something. Thanks in advance.

  • Hello Marie-Helene,

To avoid issues when using Studio on MacOs it is recommended to disable the Shared Folders and Shared Profile features in your virtual machine software. This removes the folder connection between your Mac and Windows operating systems, and disallows document sharing between the two. All folders containing projects, TMs and so on should be stored strictly on the Windows side with no connection to the Mac side.
To do this please try the following:
    1. Open Virtual Machine > Configuration > Options > Shared Folders.
    2. Click the Share these Mac folders field and select None to disable the Mac folders sharing.
    3. In the User-defined Mac OS X folders table, manually remove any shared folders, by selecting it and clicking Remove ( - ).
    4. Now open Shared Profile from the left side of this window. It is located under Options > Shared Profile.
    5. Disable Shared Profile by removing the checkbox next to Enable.
    6. Click OK. Reboot your virtual machine.
If this is not the way to accomplish this in your version of Parallels you will need to check how to remove the shared folders structure in your Parallels user guide.
    Best regards,
    Adrian
  • Hi Adrian,

Sorry, no luck. And as I said I am using Bootcamp, not Parallels. I can't seem to find any "configuration" or "shared folder" section anywhere. If you were able to provide screenshots I think that would be very helpful.

    Thanks again.
