I have no idea why you think this will be risky!  I have already told you that running in parallel is possible.

The link you refer to is a very old one... try this:  04.6 Installing and activating Trados 2024 and Trados 2022 side by side (upgrades only) 

I found it by following your instructions to search for it!

But compatibility is not guaranteed.

This has nothing to do with running them in parallel.  Both my quotes are accurate.

But I take your point.  It is never a smart idea to upgrade in the middle of a project.  Even if you do upgrade and have both versions running on your machine I would suggest you always finish out existing projects in the old version and only start new ones in the new one.  Most of the time you won't have any problems, but if the version you are upgrading from is using filetypes that happen to have been completely updated, or replaced even, then you could indeed have problems.

As for ongoing project: certainly it is better to complete it first.
I don't use many filetypes - mostly docx and xlsx (sometimes pdf as input, ocr'ed)..
