Upgrading to Studio 2022 SR2 – disaster!

I’m trying to install Studio 2022 SR2 17.2.10.19084 on my Windows 11 machine.

I installed it, it wouldn’t launch – Sdl.Desktop.Platform.CommandBars.IActionService could not be started. I tried the suggestions here involving renaming or deleting the Plugins folder – nothing worked. I then tried to uninstall from Control Panel, got an error message telling me to generate a debug log and contact technical support. I don’t have a support contract, and SDL used to provide free support with installation (which has always been a major problem area!!) but no longer does, apparently. (I have a 7MB debug log, if anyone wants to read it …)

Since the installation involves removing previous versions, I re-ran the installation file, which duly completed. An attempt to launch the program generated the error message Sdl.Desktop.Platform.CommandBars.IActionService could not be started.

Help, please!

You could try this app: https://appstore.rws.com/Plugin/107

I also would remove all remnants of Plugin folder in your Roaming settings. Then also remove all the user settings xml files as described in the article 1414 in gateway.rws.com

Please also check, if you do not have any remainings of Trados in Local and in ProgramData. Restart your PC.

Should all this not help, RWS will certainly help you creating a support ticket, as this forum is the right place to ask for help.

  • I launched FreshStart, selected Studio and Studio 2022, clicked on Repair Studio. Windows Installer displayed an error message saying "This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package."

I tried to go to gateway.rws.com and MS Edge claimed it’s unsafe and its certificate is from usa716.sfdc-8tgtt5.salesforce.com – so I can’t see what article 1414 suggests. I deleted the Plugins folder in the Local and ProgramData folders, and tried restarting.

I’ll report the results after the restart.
