Hi there,
As I have to switch to a new laptop, we will have to deactivate Studio Freelance 2022 from my old computer, and reactivate it to the new one. I have saved the Translation Memory on a memory card, but would need assistance to proceeed with moving Trados Studio from one computer to the other I will have the new computer on Friday February 7. Thank you in advance for your help!

  • Hi Mark,

If you need to transfer your license from one computer to another, please deactivate the license from your old computer before you install the software on the new computer.

You can download the installer for Trados from your RWS account – - Products&Plans - Downloads tab, install it and then activate the license on your computer.

To deactivate the license from the product, please open Trados and select Help - Product Activation - and click on Deactivate button. You can find a step-by-step guide using one of the links below:

After you installed Trados on your new computer, you can open the Translation Memory you saved on the memory card.

    Best regards,

    Anca

  • Hi,
Frances Pearn-Rowe  | Sales Director | RWS Group told me I was entitled to free installation and licensing support after I created a case on the forum. Could you please schedule support for Friday Feb. 7, between 11:00am and 4:00pm Eastern Standard Time, Toronto New York?
Thank you in advance for your reply.

It doesn't work that way.  You are entitled to the support if needed.  That means if you have a problem.  You are not entitled to have a support engineer walk you through something you should be able to do yourself.  You can get plenty of help from us and other users in this forum if you ask specifically what you need to do when you don't understand something.

If you want to be able to engage a support engineer in the way you wish then you need to pay for this as it's not a free service.

Anca provided you with some good advice that explains what you need to do, so I suggest you review that and if you have questions please do come back and post them.  In general, this is what you really need to know:

    1. You don't move Trados Studio to a new computer.  You download the installer from your account and install it.
    2. You don't move your licence to a new computer.  When you get your new computer setup you deactivate the licence on the old one, and then reactivate it on the new one.  All done through the Trados Studio help ribbon.
    3. The Translation Memory you saved on a memory card makes it simple to move the memory as this is a resource you do move.  Just crate a folder on your new computer where you want your memories to be stored and copy it there from your memory card.
    4. Other resources (Termbases, Projects) can be handled the same way, just copy them over from one computer to the other using your memory card.

But please read the links you were provided and if you have any questions there are many people in here who will be able to assist you.

If you have technical problems that relate to the licensing or installation of Trados Studio then we will log a case for you through here and engage a support engineer to help... as  mentioned.
