Trados Studio 2024 crashing on startup after unwanted Windows upgrade

I think my computer must have undergone an unwanted Windows 10 up grade the last time I rebooted, and now Trados Studio 2024 crashes on startup.

Originally, the program would start to launch, show the usual box to cancel startup of the LanguageWeaver plug-in I've had to live with since I've upgraded to version 2024, and then crash when it said it was "Initializing views..." if that's the way it's worded. It did this even after a Windows 10 reboot.

Then I installed Trados Studio 2024 CU2 and restarted Windows. When I tried to launch Trados Studio again, I got the same crash.

I'm really desperate, because I have to get my work done NOW, and it appears RWS doesn't have anywhere on the site to file a support ticket like SDL used to.

Please help.

"Question improvement suggestion": Please provide any error messages you are seeing when Trados Studio crashes, and also mention if there were any recent changes to your system apart from the Windows upgrade.

"In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:"

    Hello James,

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with Trados Studio 2024 after a Windows upgrade. Here are some steps you can take to try and resolve the issue:

Step 1: Check for any pending Windows updates and install them. You can do this by typing "Check for Updates" in the Start button search window and selecting the option offered. Install any updates found and restart your computer. Repeat this until there are no other updates.

Step 2: Try repairing your Trados Studio installation. You can find instructions on how to do this in the article titled "Repairing your installation of Trados Studio".

Step 3: Ensure that you have the .NET Framework 4.7.2 (or later) installed. If you're unsure, you can check which .NET Framework versions are installed on your computer by following the instructions in the article titled "How to: Determine which .NET Framework versions are installed".

Step 4: Refresh your .NET Framework installation. You can do this by typing "Turn Windows features on or off" in the Start button search window and selecting the option offered. Un-tick the .NET 4.5 (or higher) version, restart your computer, and then tick back the box for .NET 4.5 (or higher) after the restart.

If the issue persists, it might be due to a corrupted Translation Memory (TM) or Termbase. You can check this by disabling the TMs and Termbases one by one in the Project Settings and seeing if the crash still occurs. If it doesn't, the last TM or Termbase you disabled might be corrupted and will need to be recreated.

If your translation resources are not stored locally but are on a shared drive, network, or cloud-based file-sharing storing facility like Dropbox, try taking the resources locally and test to see if the crashes still occur.

Lastly, if you suspect a problem with the installation, you can try resetting Trados Studio to its default settings.

I hope this answer addressed your question. If not, please reject the answer, add the question improvement suggestion information, and click the RWS Community AI checkbox on the right to try again.

It's exactly the same as it was when we were SDL.  You don't help yourself because you are using the forum for Apps from the AppStore.  I just moved the post into the appropriate place, I'll also reject the AI answer and I'll create a case for you.

  • I should mention that after the same Windows upgrade, I could launch MemoQ but got an error message. Most of the projects in MemoQ would open, but one would not because a translation memory was suddenly corrupted.

The AI-generated recommendations RWS sent suggested that might be the case with Trados Studio, but I can't launch it to find out. Also, the article "Repairing your installation of Trados Studio" the AI suggested cannot be found on the RWS site, as far as I can tell.

You could always delete or rename this file:

    c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\Trados\Trados Studio\Studio18\TranslationMemoryRepository.xml

That contains the reference to the Translation Memories in your TM View, so if you rename or delete it then Trados Studio will launch without trying to load them.

Also, the article "Repairing your installation of Trados Studio" the AI suggested cannot be found on the RWS site, as far as I can tell.
