Trados Studio 2024 Translations Results window: markup / difference formatting not shown.

When translating, the difference(s) between a source sentence from the Translation Memory and the source sentence to be translated are shown (see red circle: 'drie' comes from the TU in the TM, 'zeven' from the new sentence to be translated), but without markup (difference formatting). How can I activate this markup?

How can I resolve this?

Thanks a lot.
Screenshot of Trados Studio interface showing a translation segment with the source text 'Ik heb zeven kinderen.' and the corresponding translation 'J'ai trois enfants.' A red circle highlights the difference 'driezeven' in the source segment.

Screenshot of Trados Studio Options menu with 'Differences Options' section visible. Checkboxes for 'Show document source segment differences' and 'Show translation memory source segment differences' are checked. Examples of 'inserted' and 'deleted' content formatting are shown.

"Question improvement suggestion": Please provide more information about the steps you have taken to try and resolve this issue, as well as any recent changes to your system or software. Also, please specify your operating system and its version.

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

    Hello,

Based on your description, it seems like you're having trouble with the difference formatting in the Translation Results window in Trados Studio 2024. This feature should highlight the differences between the source sentence from the Translation Memory (TM) and the new sentence to be translated.

Here are some steps you can try to resolve this issue:

Step 1: Go to the "Options" menu in Trados Studio.

Step 2: Navigate to "Editor" -> "Automation".

Step 3: Check if the "Enable AutoSuggest" option is enabled. If not, enable it.

Step 4: Under the "AutoSuggest Options", ensure that the "Show formatting differences" option is checked.

Step 5: Click "OK" to save your changes.

If the issue persists, you might need to reset your window layout. Here's how:

Step 1: Go to the "View" menu in Trados Studio.

Step 2: Click on "Reset Window Layout".

Please note that the context provided suggests a different issue related to the display of TM results, which can be resolved by manually adjusting the top margins of the TM results display and the Editor window. If you're also experiencing this issue, you might want to try this solution as well.

  • The "Enable AutoSugget" option cannot be found under "editor" -> Automation, but under AutoSuggest.

"Show formatting differences" cannot be found under "AutoSuggest Options", as  "AutoSuggest Options" doesn't exist.
"Reset Windows layout" didn't change anything.
I'm working on an HP Probook laptop with windows 11 Pro. Version 24H2. Installed on 21/10/2024. Build: 26100.3194. I don't remeber having changed something to the system. Suddenly I saw that the markup for the differences had disappeared. It is very handy tot see the difference between a source sentence to be translated and the source sentence from a TU with a partial match.

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

    Hello,

Thank you for providing additional information. It seems there was a misunderstanding in the previous instructions. I apologize for the confusion.

Here are the correct steps to check the difference formatting settings in Trados Studio:

Step 1: Open Trados Studio and go to the "Options" menu.

Step 2: Navigate to "Editor" -> "Translation Results Window".

Step 3: Look for the "Differences Formatting" section and click on "Change".

Step 4: In the new window, you should see options for "Insertion of TM matches" and "Insertion of MT matches". Make sure these are set to your preference.

Step 5: Click "OK" to save your changes.

If the issue persists, it might be a software glitch. In this case, you might want to consider reinstalling Trados Studio or checking for any available updates.

  • In the  "Differences Formatting" section, When I click on "Change", there are no options for "Insertion of TM matches" and "Insertion of MT matches". I only can modify the look of 'inserted content' (which is green and underlined) and 'deleted content', which is red and striped out. This doesn't happen.
Let's suppose there is a sentence in the Translation Memory 'I got three children'. When I want to translate a new sentence 'I have thirteen children', I see under the Translation Results: 'I have threethirteen children', where 'three' should be red and striped out and 'thirteen' should be green and underlined. But this markup is not visible.
I was thinking about reinstalling Trados Studio, but if it is a settings problem, the problem wil remain after reinstallation. I am working with the version Trados Studio 2024 - 18.0.2.3255. There are no error messages appearing.

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

    Hello,

Thank you for providing additional details. It seems that the issue you're experiencing is a bit unusual. The 'inserted content' and 'deleted content' settings you mentioned should indeed control the formatting of differences in the Translation Results window.

Here are some steps you can try:

Step 1: Go to the "Options" menu in Trados Studio.

Step 2: Navigate to "Editor" -> "Translation Results Window".

Step 3: In the "Differences Formatting" section, click on "Change".

Step 4: Make sure the 'inserted content' is set to be green and underlined, and 'deleted content' is set to be red and strikethrough.

Step 5: Click "OK" to save your changes.

If the issue persists, it might be a software glitch. In this case, you might want to consider reinstalling Trados Studio or checking for any available updates.

If reinstalling doesn't solve the issue, it might be a bug in the software. In this case, I would recommend reporting this issue to the Trados Studio support team for further investigation.
