Deactivation of Trados 2022 Freelance Plus

I upgraded from 2022 Freelance plus to same 2024. On my pc I have an activated 2024 and an installed 2022 deactivated.

On a laptop, I have an apparently activated 2022 which I want to deactivate in order to activate the 2022 on the pc.

   1. On the laptop 2022, there is no Activation button nor an About button. How can I deactivate it?

   2. In my account, there is no trace of this 2022. Only the 2024.

Any suggestion would be helpful. I was even thinking of going through an Uninstall of the laptop 2022 using a third party utility.

  • Hi

When you upgrade from version 2022 to 2024, your previous 2022 license is combined with the new version and subsequently retired. This results in the following changes:

    - The 2022 license will no longer be visible in your account.
    - You will be unable to activate or deactivate version 2022 using the regular interface.

Trados Studio automatically conceals the activation menu once the license has been retired, even if it remains installed and appears to be activated.

  • Thank you for your reply, but how do I deactivate the laptop 2022 which has no Activatation/Deactivation button? Can I simply uninstall it through thee Windows Uninstall feature without creating havoc in the other Trados applications?

  • Hi

If your 2022 version is currently inactive, you may proceed with the following steps:

    1. Navigate to Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a program.
    2. Locate and select Trados Studio 2022.
    3. Click on Uninstall.

Please be assured that this action will not impact your 2024 installation on the same or any other device. Trados versions are designed to coexist, and uninstalling one will not disrupt the functionality of another.

  • Thank you again. For the past few years, activating Trados applications has always been hectic, that's why I'm wary.

I have 2024 Freelance Plus on the PC. I would like to use the 2022 I upgraded from which is installed alongside  without deactivating 2024  because the latest build for 2024 (3255) created a bug last February preventing users from opening wsxz files downloaded from World Server. What's the simplest way to activate 2022 without deactivating 2024 please?

  • Hi,

When you upgrade from version 2022 to 2024, your existing 2022 license will be integrated with the new version and will be retired. As a result, please note the following updates:

    - The 2022 license will no longer be accessible.
    - Activation for version 2022 will no longer be possible.

  • That doesn't make sense. I have Freelance PLus for 2022 and 2024. I'm supposed to be able to use one or the other as long as only one is running at a particular time. Is this true? Am I not clear in my questions? You're telling me what I can't do but NOT what I can do...

  • HI

Upon reviewing your Account ID 363965, I see that you currently hold a single license for Trados Studio 2024 Freelance Plus. Do you happen to have another account? If not, please note that once you upgrade from the 2022 version to 2024, you will no longer be able to use both versions as separate licenses.

You can easily review your licenses by logging into your RWS account and navigating to the Products & Plans section, then selecting the Licenses tab at this link: https://oos.sdl.com/.

Should you have any questions or need further clarification, please feel free to reach out.
