Problem activating second Studio 2014 licence

Hello, I've had to reformat my laptop (which used to have Studio 2009 and 2011 on it) and I've just installed Studio 2014 instead but can't activate my second freelance plus licence (the other one is in use on my PC). I get a message saying "La licence ne prend pas en charge SDL Trados 2014".  I've tried the offline activation process but that didn't work. The 2011 version wasn't deactivated before the laptop was reformatted. I tried to do this today but it didn't help. I also returned my 2011 licence. Still no luck. Where am I going wrong? Thank you.

Did you upgrade your returned 2011 license to 2014? The error message you get seems to indicate that you are trying to activate Studio 2014 with a Studio 2011 license code.

If you purchased an upgrade from 2011 to 2014, you should see a big message on yellow background in your customer account (under "Licenses") telling you that you have an available upgrade to process. If you see this, then you need to process the upgrade in order to get your 2014 license code.

  • Thank you for your reply Walter. It does seem to be a problem with 2011 because off line activation activates a 2011 licence that won't work on the 2014 version installed, naturally. The problem is I've already upgraded to 2014 from 2011 and installed 2014 once on my PC using this licence code. I now want to install 2014 on a newly formatted laptop (I have the Freelance Plus version and therefore two licences). I do have an upgrade to process still but it is to 2015. I wanted to install (and familarise myself with) 2014 on both computers before upgrading and installing 2015 if possible...

What does it say in your customer account under "Licenses". You can see whether a license is "in use" or "available". Is your Studio 2014 license still available (or at least the Plus license)?

If it is in use, try to return it using the self-service "Force return" (see KB article 5196).

If neither works, you'll need to ask for licensing support by going to kb.sdl.com, click on "Solution Finder", then select "Licensing problems" and click the appropriate choices until you get to the form where you can enter your contact details. You may ask SDL to reset your license and they will get back to you.

  • Thank you again for your quick reply Walter. My account actually shows that both 2014 licences are still available, which is strange because I have Studio 2014 up and running on my PC. I think I'll ask for licensing support by following your instructions. Thank you for the procedure. Fingers crossed!
