Studio 2021 license deactivated itself

Last week my Trados Studio 2024 and Trados Studio 2021 instances crashed the same day and both said when re-opened that the license had expired. This was false in both cases as I have perpetual licenses. For Studio 2024 I was able to reset the license as this was still visible in my profile under licenses and subscriptions, but the Trados Studio 2021 license info is no longer displayed there, which has prevented me from resetting the license and reactivating my 2021 license. This is particularly aggravating because the only reason I still use Studio 2021 is because Studio 2024 crashes 10 times a day and does not work at all for the projects from one agency (a problem which they have had reported from many freelancers). I need to have some way of reactivating my 2021 so that I can work on certain projects. I have a freelance professional license for Studio 2021 (that is, two existing licenses), one of which should be available. Thank you.

  • Hi Elise,

What stopped the old 2021 license working, then, as it worked up until last week? If you are shutting down people’s old licenses, perhaps it would be good to wait until there is a stable version of 2024. At the time when I upgraded following the announcement of the end of support for Studio 2021, it was no longer possible to upgrade to the stable Studio 2022, so I’m between a rock and a hard place here that I did not cause myself.

The Studio 2024 problem is that when I attempt to open a file in a project prepared by a specific agency, the “Opening [file]” dialog hangs, nothing happens no matter how long you wait, and you have to kill the program via the Task Manager in order to be able to use the program again. This applies to all projects from the specific agency, which stated in a message to all freelancers regarding problems with Studio 2024 that it had not changed any settings on its side.

I have repaired Studio 2024 and deleted these folders

    %appdata%\Trados\Trados Studio\Studio18\
    %appdata%\Trados\Trados Studio\18\

    as described here:
    https://community.rws.com/product-groups/trados-portfolio/trados-studio/f/studio/58132/trados-2024-not-opening-certain-xliff-files

    to no avail.

I would appreciate if you could help with that since my workaround of using 2021 is apparently not viable.

    Best regards,
    Ryan
