Aligning and leveraging previous translation

Have ben trying to use the Scan Target File (Alignment) followed by the Leverage function and just keep running into walls.

In a previous release we used a different localizer, so at first I make an alignment-project translating from English to English using the translated files from the previous release as source. I call it align2017_eng

Then in a second project I take the original source files (same names) from that same release - this way all IDs, dialogs, and strings should be identical. I call it program2017.

I add the desired target languages, create/update the string lists.

I then try the leverage function to transfer all existing translations and other localization related changes from align2017_eng. No matter what settings I make for in the Options - Leverage field 'Get data from strings with same' I always get the message 'Cannot find matching string lists.'

What should I be doing to get this to work?

  • Please help me understanding the process you have setup. Why did you setup a project from “English to English” with the old software as source and the latest software as translations?

When migrating from a different localizer first create a project with the old source files, add all target languages then align the translated files. This will produce a perfectly translated project based on the previous fully translated software version.

Now there is no need to create another project. Create a full copy (with all the source and target files) and overwrite the source files with the latest versions that you receive from your developers. Then fully update the project. This will incorporate all the changes and new strings from the latest version.
