Korean font in Passolo 2015?

I would like to select a font for translating to Korean.


The preferred one is Gulim. Other options would be Dotum or Malgun Gothic. They all come with Windows Vista and later, and I can use them in Word, for example, but Passolo does not show any of them in its font selection list.

What can I do?

    Interestingly the Font dialog box in Passolo indeed does not list these font names (on non-Korean OS; it works fine on an Korean OS, which is strange). However, any font such as Arial seems to work for me too even on my English OS (Windows 7). So when I pick Arial I will see Korean characters as Korean characters. Possibly this is because although Passolo does not list Arial as supporting Korean, the characters are based on Unicode and Passolo is Unicode-based, so shows them. It seems to me the Passolo Font dialog box may need updating to list more fonts though. I could log this as an issue on our end if you agree.

    Thank you for your reply. I couldn't answer earlier because I was on vacation.

    There's Arial and Arial Unicode. The latter is a lot bigger and contains a large number of scripts, probably including Korean. However, even if you have just the small version, Windows will select a fallback font that contains the necessary characters, but we have no control over which one it selects.

    There are a number of Korean fonts in Windows, and they have different metrics. Our application is going to use Malgun, that's why I would like to select it specifically.

    I haven't traced this to the source, but interestingly, Malgun doesn't show up in the Font Selection dialog in Notepad or in Write either, but it's there in Microsoft office.

    Yes, please open an issue for this -- it's a problem not just for Korean but for all CJK / Far East languages. I would be happy to do some testing once you have a fix.
