"Parser Error:Object reference not set to an instance of an object."

I'm getting this error when I try to Create/update string list on a single .RESX file to which two <data> elements have been added since the last string list update.
I've had no problems updating the RESX file up to now, although there have only been a couple of iterations.

Same hotfix? Or is there a more likely/basic cause?

For posterity:
The error was caused by my pasting some text into the RESX file from Skype.  The pasting contained some kind of blank characters that messed up the unicode. Fixed the problem by deleting and retyping the blanks in a unicode-capable editor such as Notepad++

Resources.resx(0,0): Error MSB3103: Invalid Resx file. System.Xml.XmlException: The ' ' character, hexadecimal value 0xA0, cannot be included in a name.
