Hi,
I have recently acquired SDL TRADOS STUDIO 2017, and I need to open a .tmxl extension (Wordfast file) with it. I don’t know how to do it. I think I need a plug in? Could somebody help me? Thank you much. Silvia

Hi Silvia Gentili,
This file type definition is to be found in the AppStore. I will include it in this post but for future reference, here's how you would use the AppStore in this case:
https://appstore.sdl.com/language/app/file-type-definition-for-wordfast-txml/247/
Click on the green 'download' button.
Log in or sign up using your SDL account ID & password. Then select 2017 here:
and tick the 'I agree..' box,
Then click 'Continue' and the plugin will be downloaded to your usual downloads folder. Then go to that place and double-click the icon.
I've attached it here, zipped:
Sdl.Community.FileType.TXML.zip
Right-click on it in your downloads folder and select 'Extract...' or 'unzip' similar.
Double left-click on the blue icon to install the plugin.
If you have any problems installing it or getting it to work, you should be able to get help here:
https://community.sdl.com/appsupport
Let me know if there is any reason you can't use these links...
All the best
Alison :)
Sorry to hijack a 3 year old thread, but that plug-in doesn't work in Studio 2021, and there's a workaround that I found to open WordFast files https://technolex.com/tips/how-to-translate-txlf-wordfast-files-in-trados-studio/ but I can't save it as a WordFast file in that case, and I of course need to return a WordFast file as well. So what's the procedure for that? Again, the plugin does nothing.
It works for me. I've just been testing it for something else. I suggest you open a new thread and explain what your problem is.

I could open a new thread, but I can't explain the problem except for it doesn't work. There's no error message, it just does nothing. I can't import it in a project (unless I use the workaround) and I can't save it as a .txlf file either. It's like it does nothing.
Sorry... I was thinking about TXML. Apologies.
For TXLF the solution is exactly as described. That's not a workaround, it's a feature of the software to support other XLIFF formats.

But how do you save it as a TXLF file? Because I don't see that option and I of course need to return the same file format.
You just save the target file in the same way you would save any target file.

But that saves as a .sdlxliff file, and I need it to save as a .txlf file.
Edit: Never mind, I found it. I need to save as Target. Pffff. So out of curiosity, what does that plugin do?
It's for TXML as the title of the thread.
