Please remove the SRT plugin. You don't need it to handle SRT in 2021 since the very same plugin has been included in the built in filetype. This is the built-in filetype:

Hi Paul,
This does not work. I am successfully using the plugin in 2019 and found that the SRT plugin is definitely needed. Also, I do not see anything in the Subtitling Data window, it's just empty, even after a refresh. I have tried deinstalling and re-installing several times to no avail. I still get the same error message.

No surprise there. We developed the SRT filetype because the out of the box SRT filetype in 2019 was not capable of handling SRT files with the subtitling plugin extension.

No surprise there as there as the same SRT plugin needs to be updated for properly for 2021.
However, I can assure you that it is not needed at all in 2021. The exact code has been used to provide a better SRT filetype out of the box that does support the subtitling plugin.
If you created your project in 2019 and are now opening that 2019 project in 2021 then it won't work until we resolve the plugin for 2021. But if you are simply opening an SRT file in a new project then please remove the SRT plugin you have installed and try again without it. You do not need it.
I'd be happy to take a call with you right now to look at this if you like? Drop me an email - pfilkin@sdl.com

We have released an update for the 2021 version of the subtitling plugin that should resolve this problem for you whether you use the out of the box filetype or the appstore filetype. Thanks for yor time yesterda, it was helpful in identifying the problem.
Seems good now :-)
