IRIS PDF OCR not working in Studio 2021

Hi,

Our team has been using the Iris plugin for a few years now, never had a problem before, but now in Studio 2021, it is not working. It doesn't recognize any English text from PDFs, and also today this message was displayed when I opened Studio:

We installed it as directed in the App Store, and as we had done before, so I don't know what went wrong this time.

I'd appreciate any possible solutions.

Thank you!

  • Hello ,

Could you please let us know the exact version of Studio you are using please- (Help- About Trados Studio)

I have installed the plugin on version 16.1.8.4404 and cannot replicate the issues described-

Perhaps try removing the plugin and reinstalling may resolve this.

  • Hi Steven,

    The version I'm using is SR1 - 16.1.8.4404

I already tried to remove the plugin and installing it again, but it didn't work. I have iris checked in the same screen as you show, but if I create a PDF project, no text is recognized.

  • Hello ,

Have you tried with a different PDF perhaps?

Is the PDF an original or a poor 'copy'?

If this is the case, you may have to prepare the file outside of Studio first using a PDF converter such as Abbey Fine Reader/Adobe etc.)

PDF's by design are notoriously difficult to work with and its recommended that such files are properly prepared before importing into Studio.

You can also send me the file and I will have a look for you (swhaleATrws.com).

  • Hi

I'm experiencing a similar issue, though in my case IRIS is not working in Studio 2021.

It has always worked in 2019, and I have both versions open. In 2019 it works, in 2021 it doesn't.

I've tried re-install it in 2021, to no avail.

I'm not presented with an error message, only that after the conversion the document is blank, without even a translatable segment.

    Please advise,

    Thank you

    Alessio

  • Hello ,

I would advise you to start a new thread and provide as many details as possible.

What we need is the exact version of Trados Studio you are running (Help About Trados Studio)

Which version of the plugin you have installed and whether you installed directly via the Trados AppStore integration, or via the AppStore direct or perhaps if you simply copied the 2019 version over.

Also, a screenshot of your file settings  would be useful, along with the language pair you are using.

If at all possible, please share the PDF that you are unable to work with, and we can investigate this further.
