DeepL Plugin no longer working

I just started working with Trados Studio 2021 Freelancer last week.  I was able to successfully add on the DeepL plugin, and it worked okay for my first project, some blank segments, but otherwise fine.   SInce then, it has stopped working.  I click on Project Settings, select the project, click on Use, and select the DeepL plugin from the dropdown menu.   The pop-up shows up with my activation code as previously entered, but when I hit OK, it just jumps a bit, and then it is not working in the file even though it is shown as being enabled in the pop-up.

  • Hi

It seems unlikely that the plugin just stops working from day to the next so we need to try and narrow this down a little.  So let's start with a clean up.

Please make sure there are no plugins or unpacked plugins relating to this app in these locations:

    • c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\16\Plugins\Packages\
    • c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\16\Plugins\Unpacked\
    • c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\16\Plugins\Packages\
    • c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\16\Plugins\Unpacked\
    • c:\ProgramData\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\16\Plugins\Packages\
    • c:\ProgramData\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\16\Plugins\Unpacked\

Then please can you redownload the DeepL Plugin: https://appstore.sdl.com/language/app/deepl-translation-provider/847/

If the problem persists, please can you try locate this log file and send it us as it may continue some additional information: C:\Users\l[username]\AppData\Roaming\SDL Community\DeepLLogs

Looking forward to your update so that we can continue supporting you

  • And now, by googling, I found these instructions: "For some apps, other icons are shown:
downloads the installation files without installing them; the reason is that the installation is configurable. After the download, click the link “Download complete. Go to your AppStore Downloads folder and launch the app” on top of the app column."

So I thought I would delete the download and download it again to get the link that I could click on to launch the app.  But the RWS App Store keeps freezing up, and I can't even x out of it without going to Task Manager and forcing Trados to shut down completely.  So no new download.  Also, I do not have an "AppStore Downloads folder".  The downloads go straight to the downloads folder on my computer.  Meanwhile, I feel like I am shouting into a black hole...

  • ok.. downloading the app isn't enough.  You do have to install it.  If you do this manually the process would be this... after closing Trados Studio first:

    1. download the sdlplugin from the appstore
    2. save it somewhere you can find it
    3. double-click it and this will invoke the plugin installer
    4. follow the on screen prompts and restart Studio

The other way is to use the integrated AppStore.

But the RWS App Store keeps freezing up

This was a bug in the SR2 release of Trados Studio.  Manually installing or only using the big "install" link at the bottom avoids this problem.  However, if you update to CU9 that was released yesterday the freezing problem is resolved.

I hope this helps but do come back if you still have problems.  We don't want you going into that hole!

  • HI Paul, so okay, I just followed your instructions and went through the wizard (which I actually do remember doing before.. I must have somehow intuited it the first time). But then when I tried to apply it to a project, although the DeepL plugin appeared in the dropdown, it said the plugin could not be opened and has been disabled.  I thought that might be because I moved it out of my download folder into another folder, but I moved it back and then just had the same problem I had before where after clicking on ok, the box just jumps a bit and then nothing happens, .. the box stays up, and I have to x out.  I'm going to try downloading the plugin again if I can and see if that helps.  I'll keep you posted.

  • Well, I just went to the store and clicked on the Install button as you indicated, and was told the installation was complete, but when I started Trados again, I had the same problem, and when I clicked on the store icon, it told me I had no plugins installed (I had to uninstall the plugin first before reattempting the install, but I would assume that hitting the install button would reinstall it).  In addition, there is not a new version in my downloads folder, although it may have gone elsewhere for all I know.

  • Sigh. So I now uninstalled everything and went through the lengthy procedure that Lyds described above, closed down Trados, went back to the store, downloaded the plugin, ran the installation wizard successfully, opened Trados, clicked on the store icon, and it tells me that I have zero plugins installed, yet right next to that, it shows the DeepL plugin with a trash can next to it, so it must be installed. There was also an "update all" button that did not respond.  I am at my wits end.
