To ensure I get the following -or not- as you do, can you please confirm what Studio version you're running and what version of the plugin?

I am on the latest Studio version 2021 SR2 build 6.2.9.9198 and the plugin I downloaded it from the integrated AppStore to make sure I run the latest compatible version.

When I open a Google page with links to other pages, they all are within the same main frame:

searching for Getting Started in IATE and Google:

They are kept within the main window, not re-opening a new one.

So it would be useful to know the details I mentioned above.

I have the same as you - first lookup in every search engine is opened inside the plugin's window.

But when I click links in Google webpage (with search results), then new Internet Explorer window pops up.

(If it was Edge or some other modern browser, it would have been ok yet, as IE will soon be unsupported by MS).

Wikipedia behaves differently: its pages open in the same (plugin's) window (a subwindow inside Trados).

Apparently it depends on websites' html which instructs browser how to behave with new links opening.

It would be great if the plugin could substitute 'open in new window' website's setting to the 'open in the same window' on the fly so no outer applications are involved and all the subsequent operations are carried out inside of Trados.

There must be some settings of your IE browser, all the links I click inside the plugin searches are still opened inside. 

Have you tried setting Chrome as your default navigator? What happens then, does it still open Chrome pages outside the plugin window?

Frankly, I didn't even know I have an IE installed in the depths of my Windows 10 instance ))

Always used other browsers like MS Edge, Chrome etc.

I'll try your recipe and then update this post.

yes, they open all in the same plugin window:

I tried to remove the IE completely from my system (Windows 10), now in Google Search results page (and on any other page which previously opened an IE instance on link click) just nothing opens. Wikipedia (and other pages which opened their links in the same plugin's window) works just like it did before. I guess I have to try this on a Windows 11 installation.

Sadly Windows 11 shows the same behaviour as on Windows 10.

Wonder how Oana's system behaves differently, what (where) are the settings for this?

Would be great if the plugin allowed to enable these settings internally (i.e. to force open new links in the same plugin's subwindow - or in a new tab, but also inside the plugin's section of Trados interface, e.g. by pressing mouse wheel like on many browsers).

Opening outer browser's windows seems quite redundant, especially legacy Internet Explorer, not supported already by growing number of websites
