DeepL plugin causes Trados Studio 2021 to crash at startup

Hello,

We already managed to install and use DeepL plugin with Trados 2021.
On PCs previously equipped with DeepL, the plugin runs correctly in Trados..
When we install the plugin on new PCs (Windows 10), it causes Trados to crash at startup.
Trados home screen displays briefly and disappears. We can see an open session in Task Manager and can only close the task there.

We do have a DeepL Pro Ultimate subscription. We downloaded the last update of Trados 2021.

The only way we found to get Trados up and running after such a crash is to delete the Plugins folder in:
C:\username\Appdata\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\16
C:\username\Appdata\Local\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\16
C:\ProgramData\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\16

Running as an administrator doesn't help to solve the issue.

Any workaround solution? Thanks a lot in advance for your help.
Best regards,
Stéphane

  • Hi  ,

I have successfully installed the plugin on a Studio 2021 environment without encountering any crashes or errors. Your observation that it functions on previously installed machines but not on newer ones suggests that the issue may be specific to individual setups rather than a widespread problem.

To address this, I suggest ensuring that both your Studio and Windows operating system are up-to-date and that there are no conflicts within the system. Once these steps are completed, please proceed with installing the plugin from the appstore integrated within Studio, to make sure it only installs the right version specific to your Studio.

    Hopefully, this will help!

    Regards,

    Oana
