TER in Post-Edit-Compare

Hi,

can anyone help me with the correct settings for Post-Edit-Compare?

How can I activate the TER option in the Segment Columns tab, it's hidden in my settings? I run Studio 2022 SR2.

Second question, currently I receive this error message after I have run the comparison. How do I get this solved?

Screenshot of a software interface with a file explorer window open showing files and a pop-up error message in German stating 'Die Eingabezeichfolge hat das falsche Format.' with an OK button.

Thanks a lot,

Johannes

  • Sorry for the late reply.

    Here the answers.

I first create a two new project versions of a Studio project under Projects or under Post Edit Version, this brings up the same dialog.

Under Post Edit Version, I then select these two saved versions and start with Compare with Post-Edit Compare.

In the next dialog, I select the two target folders in the Folder Viewer and then click on the Create comparison report button.

In the Report Wizard, I have two steps.

In the first, the default settings remain checked (Compare all files, incluce all subfolders).

In the second, also all default settings are placed, where the TER option is deactivated.

    Then I click finish.

One or two reports are then generated (when I’m lucky), then I get the error messages “The input string has the wrong format”.

Now these error messages show right away, no report is generated anymore.

When I am parsing the folders, then the number of files is to be parsed is higher.

I have 9 files in the folder, but parsed are 18 or 27.

When I select the files on both sides, then only 9 files are parsed.

This is also weird, what other files are parsed when I only select the folders?

    Regarding my computer.

    I run a Windows 10 computer, using Trados Studio 2022 SR2 - 17.2.11.19134.

My region is Austria, the region format is German (Austria).

Sure, I would share the files with you, let me know, where to upload them.

Hope this helps. I would like to use this app, but if it is not working, it is not useful to me.

    Regards,

    Johannes

  • If Post Edit Compare does not work correctly, can you suggest any other tool we can use to determine the post-editing-distance or the TER?

  • Hi,

I do have further input to this issue.

After I have repaired Studio, re-installed Post-Edit-Compare, I was able to run one report successfully. With the second report, I had the same issue then again.

I have tried to run Post Edit Compare on another computer, where PEC was not installed before. Windows 10 and Studio 2021. And there I do get the same error at the first try. "Die Eingabezeichenfolge hat das falsche Format" (The input string has the wrong format).

I ran the report with different files, again the same result.

The error does not appear right away, it seems that the comparison itself runs successfully through all files, only in the step where the report is created, it crashes.

So the following questions come up for me:

Do only I have these issues with this app?

Why does it run sometimes, and then this error comes and it does not work anymore?

Why does that apply to different files?

It must be some kind of error in the computer or Studio settings, which causes these results.

Any help on this would be appreciated, I have to deliver a Post-Editing-Distance report to the client, but can't.

    Thanks,

    Johannes

  • Hi  ,

Thank you for those details. We managed to reproduce the error and we have it under Development (internal reference SDLCOM-5950), so soon we should have a fix in place.

Until then, we also found a workaround, and that is switching your Windows to English as regional settings and region format.

We also try to address the TERp issue regarding Java path.

    Regards,

    Oana

  • Hi Oana,

many thanks for your reply and taking care of this issue. So this is an issue with the German Windows operating system.

I will switch to the English version on my second computer, hope that works.

    Regards,

    Johannes
