I Can't see the difference between "Add New Term" and "Quick Add New Term" window appearance and options?

Hi,

(in SDL Trados Studio 2019 Professional)

I select a word and then click “Add New Term” in the “Home” tab while I am in the “Editor” environment. After that, I select another word and this time I click on “Quick Add New Term”. The “Termbase Viewer” window appears similarly, without any difference, while SDL Trados help center describes these two features in this way:

  • Add New Term- if you want to add the term and open the Edit Term mode in the Termbase Viewer window - this will allow you to fill all the available termbase fields and review the new term before adding it to the termbase.
  • Quick Add New Term- if you want to directly add the term as is.

I can’t understand what’s the difference between these two, and for me, both options do the same function and show an exact same pop-up window. Would you please clarify me?

Best,

Masoud

  • Hi

The difference between these two buttons in the standard, MultiTerm-based implementation of SDL Trados Studio is that Add New Term does not immediately save the term pair to the termbase, but opens it up an editor control in the Termbase Viewer window that allows the user to make changes to the terms before saving them. Quick Add New Term adds the term pair directly to the terminology source and displays the newly-created entry in the Termbase Viewer window. Our simplified implementation will not offer any editing function. This means that the same thing will happen in our implementation, regardless of whether the users clicks Add New Term or Quick Add New Term.

    Hope this will help .
