PPT Dependency File not found + Failed to save Target content

Hello everyone!

I have found a related combined problem post, but mine is a repeat error concerning Powerpoint files: I had the same problem earlier last week with PPTs. I lost the project as I couldn't deal with it and my client couldn't give me more time.

Here's what happens:

I open a package, it sends an error message (Dependency File Not Found...). I navigate to the source file by choosing '.ppt, but the PPT file I have does not appear, even though it is the correct name file. I proceed anyway after clicking No (not chosing the dep. file) and as a test, I try to 'Save as Target' after translating one segment. I then get the message 'Failed to save target content, couldn't find the file (ppt).'

    The error

    will normally indicate that you dont have the original source file or that the source is not properly embedded into the SDLXLIFF.

    How are you receiving the files? per PPX package perhaps?

    If so, copy the PPX package, rename and save separately- changing the file ending from .ppx to .zip.

    Now unzip the package and check the contents. If there is only a SDLXLIFF, then this will suggest the files hasn't been properly formed.

    It might be useful to know which version of Studio your client is using and indeed which version of Studio you are using too.

    Hi Steven, and thank you for your reply.

    (I have just edited my initial reply after rechecking...)

    I received a standard package based on a PPTX, and yes I received an SDLPPX.

    My version is Trados Freelance 2017. The package was created by my colleague using Trados 2015.

    I add that I have tried creating my own package by using the source file only and my own TM, it worked well; until I decided to save to Target and the file came up with a Repair message. On letting the program repair the PPT, the target file I then opened missed 3/4 of the source file information. So the problem remains unfortunately.

    I have finally solved this by

    -translating as usual anyway, until 100% translated

    -creating a new TM

    -importing the translated sdlixff into the new TM

    - copying and renaming the source file, simply to avoid confusion when working on Trados,

    -opening this renamed source file in Trados

    - using 'Pretranslate' from Batch tasks to translate this renamed file

    - opening the translated renamed file

    -saving the translated renamed file As Target

    But I would be happy to better understand what happened in the first place, if anyone can help me with this?
