Can't connect cloud TB to MT in Trados Studio 2021 SR1 - 16.1.5.4270

I'm exploring MT in Trados Studio (desktop) for the first time after a long time  – using the SDL Machine Translation Cloud Provider app – and can't connect a termbase to it. When I go to the cloud provider settings in my project, I see "No dictionary available" in the drop-down field for MT Cloud Dictionary.

I have Trados Live Essential Freelance and in Trados Live I have a termbase with 2K terms in it (I created it from a tbx conversion of a local TB).

One thing that I find suspicious is that nothing is listed in my account under Plans – just a link that says "Explore our Language Cloud subscription plans".

What am I doing wrong?

  • I'm sorry -- I have to add one more question: How do I arrive at the page shown in your last image? This is my own SDL Machine Translation Cloud page header:

  • it seems that "glossary" is a third concept, different from the other two

Please note... it is not a third concept!  It's a mistake!  The glossary that was referred to should have been called a dictionary.

I need to explore that closely and I'll try to do that without bothering you further.

No problem "bothering" me at all Mats, I'm always happy to engage.  I guess I'm annoyed that we made a mess of such a simple concept so it's confusing you, and that I am unable to explain this clearly to you.  My apologies.

You have arrived at it.  But because you don't have the same "paid" account that I have access to you are seeing different things.  Can I ask that we drop this question for a few weeks?  There are some plans to make something available as a paid package more in line with the requirements for a freelance translator, and once we have this in place we can have a sensible discussion about it.  Right now I believe the costs involved with the current packages, that are aimed at large Enterprises, means that the features you are trying to get to the bottom of are really out of reach for a freelance translator.  They are designed for companies doing well over the 6 million chars a year that we provide for free. As an example, the Enterprise package starts at around a billion chars a year and includes a lot more features than just dictionaries.

I'll revisit this thread when we have more details and expand upon the options.

  • OK; thanks for all your efforts, and the last reply makes good sense (and it would have helped if you earlier had not said "the feature is indeed included", without any qualification).
