Get error message when I try to see my translated document with Preview : Preview prevented by Office File Validation (OFV). Microsoft Office File Validation is preventing this preview because the preview file is un untrusted folder. Could anybody tell me how to change OFV validation settings to enable preview ? Other suggestions ?
This is a security setting of Microsoft Office. It prevents you from opening files in an untrusted folder. Unfortunately, only your local folders are trusted by default, so that you need tweak the settings most of the time.
You can change the setting by going to "File - Options - Trust Center" in Word and adding the folder as "trusted folder".
Depending on the version of Office that you have, you may need to also make some changes to the registry. Have a look at the following links:
You may also google for "trusted locations Office".
Just thought I should mention how I solved this problem (for future googlers). I usually use Office 365, but since Studio’s Embedded preview is still not compatible with it, and I really love Studio’s Embedded preview, I downgraded to an old copy of Office 2010.
Anyway, Word documents were being previewed perfectly in the Embedded preview, but I was having a problem with PowerPoint files, which gave me the error mentioned in the original post. I managed to solve this, and my PowerPoint files are now being previewed perfectly in the Embedded preview, by adding the following to my Windows 10 registry:
EnableOnLoad = DWORD: 0DisableEditFromPV = DWORD: 0
Although I'm pretty sure that the above registry change is what fixed it, I should also mention that I also messed around with my PowerPoint Trust Center settings at the same time. So it is therefore conceivable that these changed Trust Center settings are what fixed it, although I am quite sure it was the registry change. I changed a few things in the Trust Center settings, basically making all security as lax as possible. Sorry, I know that's a bit vague, but that's all I can remember at the moment.
Anyway, I am now happily using Studio 2017’s Embedded preview for both MS Word documents and PowerPoint files. I haven't checked Excel files yet. If they don't preview properly, the same entries can be added to the relevant Excel location in the registry.
some of the info I used to solve this:
