TMS 12.7 | TMS 12.7 Release Announcement (May 2023)

We are pleased to announce the general availability of TMS 12.7. See below for some highlights of this release.

Organizational-level settings

TMS 12.7 allows users to define some settings at the organizational level that were previously only available as system-wide settings. The settings relate to various functional areas as follows:

  • TM and Filtering
  • QA Checks
  • Password and Security
  • Archiving

When editing an organization, new tabs on the page allow the user to override the settings. When determining the settings to use for an organization, TMS will search up the organizational tree and use the first settings it finds. If there are no organizational settings defined in the tree, TMS will use the system-wide settings as before.

Multi-TM containers

TMS 12.7 includes a new object type called TM Containers which appears in the hierarchy alongside TMs and TM Sequences. A TM Container is a single Microsoft SQL Server database that can host multiple translation memories. This breaks the traditional one-to-one relationship between translation memories and databases. TM Containers can be created, edited, and deleted. When creating a new translation memory, users can choose to add the TM to a TM Container or use the legacy approach of creating a database to host the TM. Existing translation memories can also be migrated to a TM Container although this should only be done during quiet hours as the TM will be unavailable during migration. There are no functional differences between the legacy approach and the new approach and TMs will continue to work as before. Hosting multiple TMs in a single database does, however, provide potential for cost savings on hosting TMs and makes administration of the databases much easier.

Multi-Factor Authentication

TMS users who use RWS ID to access the application can now enable MFA as an option to help secure their account. A new option labelled Protect with Multi-Factor Authentication is available when editing user options. In addition to securing user accounts, there is a new setting when editing an organization which is labelled Require Multi-Factor Authentication. Organizations that require MFA, and all their resources, will not be visible to users who are not authenticated with MFA.

Improved search

Building on the new search that was previously shipped with TMS 12.6, TMS 12.7 now includes extra objects that are indexed and can be found by executing a search. The new objects are:

Attributes Configurations Cost Formulas
Cost Models Cost Variables File Types
Language Groups Language Pairs Organizations
Projects Project Schedules QA Models
Reports Resources Terminology Databases
Terminology Sequences Translation Memory Containers Vendors
Workflows Workflow Steps Workflow Templates

The new objects can be found using the search page or by using the new quick search box on the TMS navigation bar.

Migrate TM content to Language Cloud

Previously released in a Cumulative Update for TMS 12.6, TMS 12.7 allows users to pass TM content from TMS to Language Cloud using the following process:

  • Log in to TMS with RWS ID
  • Edit the TMS organization and link it to the Language Cloud tenant
  • Edit the TMS TM and link it to the Language Cloud TM
  • Choose:
    • Automatically update the Language Cloud TM when the TMS TM is updated in the workflow
      and/or
    • Automatically export the TMS TM content to the Language Cloud TM during a scheduled export

Both methods use a TMX file which is queued for import in the normal way. The Language Cloud TM will show the import history for a TM.

Infrastructure

TMS 12.7 supports the latest infrastructure from Microsoft for operating systems and databases. TMS 12.7 is fully compatible with Microsoft Windows Server 2022 and Microsoft SQL Server 2022.

File types updates

TMS 12.7 contains updates to the latest file types. This includes the new PDF filter that was previously announced as part of the Trados Studio release cycle.
