Error when importing WS return package even though I have the original WS package

Hello,

has anyone come across this issue: I received a world server package (not a return package, a standard package) from a client, and I forwarded it to a translator, who gave me back a return package. Even though I unpacked the original package in my Trados Studio 2021 and have it in my list of projects, when I try to unpack the the return package, I get the following message: "The translation package doesn't contain necessary information. The package you are importing may be a return package." I don't understand why Trados is unable to connect the two.

  • Hello , if I understand you correctly, this is what happened:

You have opened a WSXZ (WorldServer) package in Trados Studio. After opening the package, a WorldServer project is created in Trados Studio.

At the same time, you sent the same WSXZ package to the translator. The translator opens it in the same way, translates it, and then creates a WorldServer Return package, which they send back to you. A WorldServer Return package is meant to be imported into WorldServer, not into Trados Studio.

If you wanted a Return package from your translator that you could import into your Studio WorldServer project, you should have created a project package from the WorldServer Studio project and sent that to the translator. The translator would then send you a Studio Return package, which you could import into your WorldServer (Studio) project. Finally, to deliver the translation back to WorldServer, you would create a WorldServer Return package.

As a workaround to use the translator's bilingual file, unzip the WSXZ package they sent you (or rename it to *.zip and then unzip it). It should contain the translated bilingual SDLXLIFF file.

Go to the project folder of your WorldServer Studio project, open the target language folder, and replace the SDLXLIFF with the one from the translator. Make sure the bilingual file is not open in the Studio Editor while doing this.

Then, return to Studio, open the file in the Editor, and review the translation.

    I hope this helps you,

    Caterina
