Not all documentation should be visible to everyone. Maybe you need to restrict certain products to specific customers or protect pre-release content for internal reviewers. Until now, Genius has given you two choices: fully public or entirely behind login. With the Onyx release, you get the granular control you need.

Role-based access

Authentication was already available in a previous release, giving you the option to make your Genius Portal fully public or require login for all content. For most customers, this wasn't granular enough. Flexibility is needed to have a public setup, partially protected content, or a fully protected portal.

To make this possible, we created Genius Admin, where you can manage groups of people and control which documentation they can access.

Genius Admin

Genius Admin consists of two panels. Your administrator starts by creating groups of people. These groups are linked to roles from your Identity Provider (IDP), configured in Access Management.

For example, you could set up a group with access to documentation for a specific project or create a group of reviewers who can see content before it goes live. For a more granular setup it is possible to map individual claims coming from your IDP to specific groups.

After creating a group, you can easily assign content permissions by linking a product and release to that group. Available products are displayed, and you can choose to grant access to a specific release or to all documentation for the selected product.

Genius Portal

If some content requires authentication, users will see a login option in the top menu bar. After logging in, they will see all published content they have access to, based on their group membership and the content permissions you have configured.
