Horizontal Scrolling Issues in Browse Repository

Screenshot showing the Browse Repository scrollbar in Trados Studio with a visible jump, not aligned with the cursor position.

SDL Knowledge Center/Publication Manager version 12.0.3725.3

Issue Summary

  • Expected behavior for Browse Repository horizontal scrolling: To click and drag once in order to smoothly scroll from left to right.
  • Actual behavior  for Browse Repository horizontal scrolling: Clicking and dragging multiple times as the scrollbar jumps around and gets left behind by the cursor.

Explanation

When scrolling from left to right in order to view columns in Browse repository, the scroll bar randomly jumps, causing the user to have to reselect it and drag it again to get to their destination, sometimes multiple times. The scrollbar behaves, while being dragged, as if it were deselected or as if the user had clicked away from the scroll bar, even if they had not. This causes issues continuously scrolling from one end to the other and the user needs to constantly click it again after the scroll bar moves or gets left behind.

In addition, it exhibits odd behavior when using the preview feature while trying to scroll. Sometimes it fails to move upon being clicked and dragged at first.

This isn't a huge issue, but scrolling is a common action, so it gets frustrating having to pick up the scroll bar over and over. One of my coworkers reported that closing the window and reopening it seemed to help a little. There doesn't seem to be the same issue when using the left and right arrows to scroll instead of the scrollbar itself, but using the arrows to navigate left and right is really slow-going.

At least two other coworkers of mine have noticed this same issue while they are scrolling in Browse Repository.

If anyone has any solutions for this, please let me know. Otherwise, can this be fixed in a future release?

Thanks so much!

P.S. -Feel free to move this post if it belongs somewhere else. I wasn't sure where to put it.

  • Hi Kathryn, thank you for your feedback.

I never heard about horizontal scrolling stopping. What I do know is depending on the amount of data/rows and the HW/performance of your client machine it can visually stall. Meaning the scrollbar indicater stays behind, but eventually (if you keep the mouse button down) it will catch up.

If you think more is going on, then my suggestion is to create a support ticket as it will also guide you on missing information like
    • Windows operating system
    • HW specs
    • Server and Client Tools software version in full
    • Fiddler network logging to see if the slow down occurs because of network traffic
    • In general, how to reproduce?
