What are the cid attributes for?

Hello,

What are the cid attributes that SDL sprinkles liberally throughout the data? I'd prefer not to have them, if it they're not required for functionality.

Thanks,

Bill

  • Hi Bill,

These are “Comment IDs”, use for Collaboration and Review. They are placed where a comment is allowed when reviewing in Collaboration and Review, if you use that.. You can stop this by editing the plugin.

In the Web client for Content Manger Go to Setting/XML Write Plug-In Settings. Look for the plugin name "GENERATE.COMMENT.IDS". You can comment this block out to stop the CID’s being inserted.
  • Bit more background... The historical reason for introducing @cid is to allow inline comment matching. So not only a comment on a topic, but on a paragraph or list item, etc. That can also be achieved by the @id attribute, however adding many more @id attributes would diminish UX as many tools rely on @id to allow link target selection for @conref or @xref, etc
