PDF size differs depending on Open or Save in Publication Manager (TD 13.0.2)

Hello,

Of course we all have different publishing pipelines, but I have a question which might just be standard behavior in Publication Manager.

In the Output pane, when selecting Download > Save and saving the pdf locally, the file size is larger than when selecting Download > Open and then saving the pdf locally.

Is this intentional?

Thanks

Best,

Peter

  • When you publish to a PDF, usually the program Antenna House is converting the FO file into a PDF that then gets uploaded into the database. That PDF contains certain information generated by Antenna House. Once you download it with Publication Manager, it will save the PDF to your file system, just like how it was uploaded during publishing. So between those 2 steps, the file size doesn't, or shouldn't change.

When you save it using a different program (like Adobe Reader), it can remove some meta information and apply some extra compression.

I did a quick test by downloading a PDF using Publication Manager and save it with Adobe Reader. Before opening with Adobe Reader, the file size 3.45 MB, and after saving 3.40. Next I did a compare and the content between the files are identical, yet the file size is different.

So to summarize, Adobe PDF is using a different compression mechanism than Antenna House resulting in a different file size.
