External PDF links in TDX 2014.3

We have recently upgraded from LCA 2014 to TDX 2014. Previously, we could add a PDF file as a resource in a publication, create a cross-reference to this resource, and have an active link to the PDF in an XHTML help output.

In TDX 2014, the PDF does not get included in the XHTML help output folder when built, so the link does not work.

In LCA 2014 we could categorize the repository file as "Other (Word, PDF, ...)" while in TDX it's just categorized as "Other."

  • Hi Tyrone,

Categorizing the PDF file as "Other" is the same as what you used to have as "Other (Word, PDF, ...)". There have been various changes between LiveContent Architect 2014/11.0.0 released in 2014 and Tridion Docs 14SP3/14.0.3 released in 2020 and this UX simplification is one of them. Behind the scenes it is still stored in an object of card type CTTEMPLATE.

What you describe, looks like a customization that was not picked up when upgrading your system. I would advise to reach out to Professional Services. The publishing pipeline received a rewrite in Tridion Docs 13/13.0.0 resulting in massive performance improvements by rapidly doing conditional filtering of map trees; but also only following "linked" (topicref) and not "crosslinked" (xref) content. Profesional Services can help you with backfilling those exceptionally "cross-linked" resources.
