Why do parent topics with conditions not show as conditioned in the Publication Manager preview pane?

Tridion Docs 14.2, Publication Manager 14.0.2

When a map is displayed in the preview pane, only child topics with conditions show as such in the preview pane. If a parent level topic is conditioned, there is no indication in preview.

Is this something that can be configured?

  • Clarification: What we would like is to be able to see which condition is set on a topic that is red or green in the map.

Currently, you must open the XML attributes to see which condition is applied. However, if the topic is released, you must version the topic in order to view the XML attributes. This is not always possible or desired within our workflow.

  • Hi Meg... I'll attempt an answer as I'm still not sure what you see on your Publication Manager screen (screenshot possible?)

    • The Map preview will highlight the conditions that are on the topicref elements.
    • The Map(s) Table of Content tree shows the condition coloring and the Xml Attributes allows you to see the topicref conditions as well... this is considered an Edit Map action which in turn means a Checked out (potentially triggering new version is required).
    • For others, the above description describes version the topic which is not required as the topic does not contain the condition anyway. If by some reason you were putting conditions on the root element of your topics, that is considered an anti-pattern as the whole system will think there is a valid/well-formed xml topic file although conditions could completely nullify the file (not even an xml root element).

A sample preview screenshot on what you by default would see regarding conditions

Screenshot of Trados Studio Publication Manager showing a content tree with various topics. Green checkmarks indicate conditions applied to topics like 'snake game' and 'DJ game'. A red cross highlights a condition error on 'water rapids'.
