Referencing a graphic from an Illustrations-Symbols library topic

I have a cover page for a user document that includes a small graphic in the corner of the page associated with an appliance type. I have created an Illustration-Symbol library containing the seven possible graphics.

I don't know how to reference the images in the cover page topic.

For text, I know I can use...

... to pull a text phrase from a library topic.

I don't know the equivalent reference method when the item I want to reference is an image in an illustration library.

Not my area of expertise, but I can try to get the conversation started :)

In your text-variable example you are in essence using a msgph xml element to reference something else. So what are you referencing for the cover image?

The actualy image, the LogicalId/GUID of that image?

Or the xml element surrounding the image, which actually brings it back tot the above text-variable sample (although nested in the variable there is an image, your wanted side effect)

When I used Oxygen to create the library topic for images, it put the varid for the image in the image tag, not the surrounding element.
