Mark explained the API part. Key is that "Document Object" is about content objects (so OASIS DITA Maps, Topics, Library Topics, Images and Other) while "Publication Output" is about publication version objects. There is only a Full Text Index for the "Document Object" part, which you can access over the "Search" API. For publication versions, we only have relational database querying, in the API we refer to the "Find" keyword for that.

In your scenario, I assume you are looking for an xml construct in the "Document Object" part - so in the xml files.

• If your Publication Manager, has the "Current publication" scope set. Than it is using API call https://docs.rws.com/992527/186243/tridion-docs-15/search-2-5-performsearchinpublication 
• If your Publication Manager, has the "Entire Repository" scope set. Than it is using API call https://docs.rws.com/992527/70179/tridion-docs-15/search-2-5-performsearch 
  • ISHRemote Search-IShDocumentObj cmdlet, only implemented the "Repository" wide querying. Most of it is explained  on https://github.com/RWS/ISHRemote/blob/d3cd88d6394601e6751e1234f18daa4d869437e0/Doc/ReleaseNotes-ISHRemote-0.13.md
• If your Publication Manager, has the "Entire Repository for publications" scope set. Than it is using API call https://docs.rws.com/992527/69978/tridion-docs-15/publicationoutput-2-5-find which is a relational SQL query.
