Broadvision QuickSilver Filetype

Hi,

We seem to be hearing more and more people asking about QuickSilver (Interleaf) file support so we thought this may be a good opportunity for anyone interested in providing a free or paid for filetype to support this format. (Documentation attached)

Apparently QuickSilver 3.5 using the ASCII format is in common use and with version 3.6 around the corner it is likely to remain for about two years before version 4 takes over which is planned for 2013/2014.  We had a little feedback from BroadVision that are are a minimum of 250 contracted corporate customers using QS in Germany alone.  There may be 50 additional ones without a contract.  This amounts to around 2500-3000 users in Germany alone.  In Switzerland there are around 20-30 contracted corporate customers with around 150 licenses.  In Europe (FR, IT, ES, UK) QS is also pretty widely used.

Not all of these have translation requirements but the estimate from BroadVision is that probably 80% do and they remain a strong niche player in the techdoc industry.

Talking internally we thought about two approaches to this:

  1. Develop a filetype for the QS format as a plugin for Studio
  2. Develop a converter to create XML files that could be used in Studio or other tools

So I wondered whether any of the developers in this community were already developing something for this filetype, or would be interested in taking it on?  I think it's an interesting filetype to develop as a paid plugin, but look forward to hearing what you think?

Regards

Paul
