Having used Trados Team for a few weeks now, I feel it offers great potential but is not flexible enough.
The following approach would work for our purposes, although I appreciate other companies and translators will have different requirements of which I am unaware. Perhaps my thoughts may be of some use though.
- Deliver full flexibility by allowing users to configure their own custom workflows using a selection of primary modules and submodules.
- Primary modules are set out as stages in a workflow. Users can select as many as they like and combine them in any order (with obvious exceptions)
- Submodules can be added to any primary module of any in-progress project at any time.
- Revisiting a completed project and clicking the “Return Project to in Progress” button reopens the job, prompting the PM to add/select the files to be edited and select new modules and/or submodules as required, all prefilled with the same settings as before (same translator(s) and reviewer(s))
Primary modules:
Automated project creation
Comprises usual batch tasks
Human XLIFF review + prep
Manual task with buttons for opening files in Studio and/or online editor.
Any submodules must be marked as done before completion is possible.
On completion, system prompts to handover for next stage.
Human translation
Manual task with buttons for opening files automatically in Studio and online editor.
Any submodules must be marked as done before completion is possible.
On completion, system prompts to handover for review or, if no review/review complete, prompts to sign off.
Human review
Any submodules must be marked as done before completion is possible.
On completion, system prompts to return to translator or, if no changes to pass on for next review/sign off, as appropriate.
Custom human intervention
Manual task with custom instruction and options to add any submodules.
Any submodules must be marked as done before completion is possible.
On completion, system prompts to proceed with next stage in workflow.
Sign off
Any submodules must be marked as done before completion is possible.
If no layout check has been completed, system prompts user to perform layout check.
On completion, an automated process…
- updates the TM
- checks that a layout check has been performed
- generates a target file but only if the layout check submodule has been marked as complete but no signed-off version has been uploaded
- marks task/file/project as ready to deliver and provides link to latest version of target file in both xliff and native format to be downloaded for delivery
Submodules:
Automated batch task(s)
Any custom selection of batch tasks
Machine translation
Self explanatory
PerfectMatch
Prompts user to select matching file from project or upload xliff and then apply PerfectMatch
Layout check
Automatically generates target file, prompting user to download file and check in native format.
Allows user to open file in online editor and/or studio to make edits.
Allows user to upload finalised target file marked as “signed off”.
If project is subsequently returned from a downstream module, this submodule is set back from “complete” to “incomplete”
On completion, system prompts to confirm whether a “signed off” version of the target file in native format has been uploaded and then prompts to return to translator/reviewer or pass on for sign off.
