64-bit version of Studio

Please create a 64-bit version of Studio. At present only a 32-bit version is available, and therefore it can theoretically only access 2-3GB of system memory, meaning that upgrading your machine with more memory then this does not have any beneficial impact on Studio performance.

When handling large files & projects, allowing Studio access to all of your system's memory would make a huge difference in time and performance, and for this the app needs to be 64-bit.

Are there any plans to release a 64-bit version in future?

  • Yes, this is in progress and I have recently personally seen a bilingual Excel file with 400,000+ rows open in an early x64 build  with no more "out of memory" messages - more news in the course of the year... stay tuned...

  • I lost my hope of ever seeing this a long time ago... Plus, since the current latest version of Studio is incompatible with our GroupShare, I can safely surmise we will NEVER migrate to a 64-bit version, as this would make it impossible for us to use our GroupShare (which cost dozens of thousands of EUR - and works just fine).
All in all, this has been in development for the past 8 years, and is still not here. And it will probably never be here, despite somebody seeing 400,000+ rows open in an early x64 build. At this rate this means RWS will finish the product by 2035, when all translation is done automatically by LLMs, with just small input from linguists ;)...

Shame, because this has always been the most needed feature, and this had been overlooked.

  • Thanks Mateusz - just to reiterate - we _are_ working on this - more news quite soon. The someone you mention happens to be the product manager of Studio :). We will ensure compatibility with GroupShare 2020 (recent SR/CUs). Thanks, Daniel

  • Thanks. Just to explain - we use GS 2017, which - until a few months ago - worked with Studio 2024 just fine. Then came the big update, and all GS2017 project names merged into a single name, thus making in impossible to work/post/publish/download projects. I do not have 20k EUR lying around to purchase a newer version of GS2020, so we will definitely stick to that GS2017 for the next 10 years or so. We will therefore stop upgrading our Studio licenses, too (something that we've been doing for the past 12 years yearly), and we will keep working as we are today.

Therefore, we will never benefit from the 64-bit version of Studio, despite having waited 9 years for it. I am happy this feature will be rolled out sometime, but this is all a little too late. :(
