64-bit version of Studio

Please create a 64-bit version of Studio. At present only a 32-bit version is available, and therefore it can theoretically only access 2-3GB of system memory, meaning that upgrading your machine with more memory then this does not have any beneficial impact on Studio performance.

When handling large files & projects, allowing Studio access to all of your system's memory would make a huge difference in time and performance, and for this the app needs to be 64-bit.

Are there any plans to release a 64-bit version in future?

  • I have a super computer with a very fast SSD. Trust me it doesnt help no matter how fast your SSD is!!! We require a 64 bit version of Studio. I am tired of slowless and lack if improvements in SDL 2019...

You obviously did not choose a fast enough SSD… Just kidding of course ^^

I have not upgraded to Studio 2019, but so far I have not seen any real improvements for translators. I have heard the project management side has been improved though.

However I am not surprised to hear that Studio 2019 (still) crashes, and this is the main reason why I have not upgraded yet: from what I have seen, it seems like they just added a few features on top of an ancient software design, keeping all the previous problems, and calling it a new version.

Several of my big customers are shifting from Studio to online CAT tools, and all of them provide a free access for translators.

Although I will always prefer "offline" CAT tools over the online tools (for many reasons), I hope this will encourage SDL to build a whole new version of Trados Studio: a 64-bit version that uses all available resources, fixes all the crashes and the features that have never worked properly across versions, with a better and fully customizable interface.

Another funny thing is how SDL is constantly trying to push their support contracts… when you are doomed to encounter crashes and major problems at all levels when dealing with this program.

And to pick up on the above post of Sofie De Spiegeleer, it is not normal to have a whole program blocked on ONE task for an entire day, especially given the price of Studio licenses. I do know project managers who have to keep Trados running all night long, just to generate an analysis. And the worst part is that in the morning they often find the task simply crashed…

Sometimes I wonder whether the company really wants to offer fully working software or it is just trying to sell as many licenses and support contracts as possible without making any real investments while the "leadership" lasts…

  • Another example of Trados promising the world, and leaving you scratching your head, because certain basic performance requirements are not met.

for what it is worth, I was running 8gb of ram on a regular HD and Trados 2019 crashed all the time.  I then upgraded to 16gb and 1 tb SSD HD, and it still crashes... Looking at the system analytics, it is so sad to watch those 12gb of RAM going unused while Trados is on the brink of crashing at 30% of RAM...

  • Hello all,

I work for a client who regularly sends me massive collections of project files and massive termbases to be observed during my translation and have been desperately trying to find a way to get Trados to run faster. A 64-bit version would be immensely welcome!! With many projects, I spend more time waiting for Trados to respond than actually working and the economic loss is considerable.

Yes, I use my SSD drive and have a very modern, high-performance computer with plenty of RAM.

Hereby bumping up this community request. My gratitude for a 64-bit version would know no bounds...! :)
