In Progress

This is in progress for next service release of Trados Studio 2024 to be released later this year, exact timing to be announced.

Font size for comments

Some of us have trouble to see very small font sizes, like comments. There should be a way to make it bigger.

Generally speaking, anything that could be done to make Trados visually comfortable would be nice.

Please note I use Trados 2021 and I have no intention of upgrading. I already did and had to roll back because of issues in the interaction between Trados and Multiterm. I would love a solution for comments that could be applied to all Trados versions.

  • Hi Philippe, we are interested in changing it. When overseeing thousands of potential items on the roadmap, it is sometimes hard to keep it all together, but this conversation is good to see to bring this particular item back on the radar. Hopefully it's like you say - easy change. Sometimes those turn out to be the hardest, but I would hope it's not the case here. Won't happen overnight, but we have it on the list of potentials.

  • Paul, I have not the experience of RWS developers, but I have enough developed on my own to know that improving the comments box would not be a big deal.
It would not change anything to the way comments content is stored in the sdlxliff files. The issue is just about to improve (not even rethinking, just improving) the modal window in which the comments are edited and displayed, to allow a larger font and store that user preference somewhere with other preferences. It would not interfere at all with the rest of  the general application or UI.
And while I apologize if I sound somewhat harsh, this little improvement is so easy to do that I can only think that no one is interested in changing it.

  • While I understand what you say about the cloud, we still deserve to get solutions for the desktop application. You say RWS is working on it, ok, but years pass and nothing happens. I would check the online editor if I knew how to get there in my computer. I can't see how to access it. I tried it on my smartphone but that is not good enough for me for lots of reasons.

It’s not helpful to make statements such as "nobody at RWS seems to be interested in improving that point."  The reality is that making accessibility improvements in Trados Studio is a complex and ongoing process, due to the underlying platform it is built on.  A significant amount of work has already been done to enhance accessibility, and these efforts continue.

At the same time, cloud-based solutions offer a far more effective approach for addressing many of these challenges.  While I understand that some users prefer to avoid cloud-based workflows, or believe they have constraints preventing them from adopting them, it's important to consider how technology is evolving.  The cloud provides a more flexible and sustainable way forward, particularly in terms of accessibility improvements.

Change can be difficult, especially when people are accustomed to a particular way of working.  However, technology and industry standards are always moving forward, and embracing these developments will ultimately lead to better tools and a more inclusive experience for everyone.

More importantly, many of the improvements people ask for are already available in cloud-based solutions.  Dismissing the cloud without trying it means missing out on the very things being requested.  Rather than assuming limitations, it's worth exploring what’s already possible—you might find that the solutions you need are already there.

  • You are absolutely right. In fact, visual accessibility and comfort should be am all-around priority for a software like this. But here we are.
