Font size for comments

Some of us have trouble to see very small font sizes, like comments. There should be a way to make it bigger.

Generally speaking, anything that could be done to make Trados visually comfortable would be nice.

Please note I use Trados 2021 and I have no intention of upgrading. I already did and had to roll back because of issues in the interaction between Trados and Multiterm. I would love a solution for comments that could be applied to all Trados versions.

  • Thank you Paul, I will take a good look as soon as I can. Just let me tell you that 1) my client may have objections to working through a third-party cloud, 2) I work with my client via groupshare, so the main TM is housed in their server, I wonder if the trados online editor allows that kind of setup.
On the other hand, I myself didn't say that RWS was ignoring these needs. I only suggested they should be a priority and nothing seems to be happening, which is not exactly the same. I'm happy to hear things are actually happening, because the comments is just one example of things that could be done.
Thank you very much again for your help.

You can do this from Trados Studio but the easiest way is to go to https://eu.cloud.trados.com/ and login with the same credentials you use for your RWS Account.  There is a little setup to complete first, but once you've done that using it is quite simple.  Although it is smartphone friendly to some extent I wouldn't use it... it hasn't been designed with a simpler interface just for a phone so like you, I don't think it's good enough as a working environment yet.

I can understand why you might feel nothing happens from year to year, but if you review the release notes you'll see a section called "Enhanced accessibility and productivity thanks to platform modernization".  The work that has gone into getting to this point isn't trivial and among other things involved pretty much a complete replacement of the editor.  So things are happening even if not noticeable for you because you may be looking for specific things such as the issues mentioned in this thread.  But accessibility is a big topic and the progress is such that a completely blind user can now create a project, translate it and save the target file.  This was absolutely not anywhere near possible in previous releases of Trados Studio.  There are many "small" improvements that for you may have gone unnoticed over the years, but for others make a difference.

Nobody is ignoring these needs, and we all wish we had a magic wand and could make everything perfect tomorrow.

  • Hi Philippe, we are interested in changing it. When overseeing thousands of potential items on the roadmap, it is sometimes hard to keep it all together, but this conversation is good to see to bring this particular item back on the radar. Hopefully it's like you say - easy change. Sometimes those turn out to be the hardest, but I would hope it's not the case here. Won't happen overnight, but we have it on the list of potentials.

  • Paul, I have not the experience of RWS developers, but I have enough developed on my own to know that improving the comments box would not be a big deal.
It would not change anything to the way comments content is stored in the sdlxliff files. The issue is just about to improve (not even rethinking, just improving) the modal window in which the comments are edited and displayed, to allow a larger font and store that user preference somewhere with other preferences. It would not interfere at all with the rest of  the general application or UI.
And while I apologize if I sound somewhat harsh, this little improvement is so easy to do that I can only think that no one is interested in changing it.
